Saint Nicholas Day

The girls awoke this morning to find clementines, natural candy canes, and chocolate coins in their shoes they left on the marble hearth last night. There was also a ring of tiny ornamental balls which jingle! Now, with their every gesture, I hear the faint sound of jingle bells heralding in the Christmas season.

We celebrate St Nicolas Day too. I let the girls pick out small useful gifts for their sisters (Mary got a crochet book, Grace a journal...). Before they open their gifts they each talk about what they really love about each of their sisters. It's such a sweet time and one they really look forward too.
